Another gripe post about a retailer

I was on a trip to Dallas this week, and I stopped by Best Buy to grab a 2 gig USB memory stick for a project I was going to be working on. I went in, got the memory stick, found an XBOX poker game (impulse buy), walked up to the register, handed the guy the memory stick and the game, and started reaching for my credit card. Before I could get my wallet out, the guy was asking me if I had a Best Buy credit card that I wanted to use. I said no and kept reaching for my wallet. So he asked me if I wanted one of their cards. I said no. He asked if I was sure because it was free (because of course, since it is free, how could I turn it down). I told him that I was sure, and I handed him my credit card.

So he scans my items, and then proceeds to tell me that the game (not the memory stick, which was $25 more than the game) had one of their insurance programs available where if the game has a problem you can return it, yada yada. I have heard it before, so I said “no thanks” before he could finish. He asks if I am sure…AGAIN, and I told him I was sure…AGAIN.

Then, he immediately asks me if I wanted to subscribe to some magazine he has on the counter. I have heard that one as well, so I say … NO. I kinda glare at him this time, because I am waiting for the “Are you sure” question. He didn’t ask that time. Smart kid, kinda.

Why can’t I just go buy something without all these dang other offers? I swear, it’s like calling a credit card company for a simple question and getting 15 offers to buy some dang service. I DON’T WANT IT!!

Sheesh.
