Cake show weekend
Posted by Mikey on March 26th, 2007 filed in Cakes, FamilyI just got back from McKinney, Texas (half an hour north of Dallas) where my wife was competing in another cake show. I must say that I know a lot more about cakes and the world of sugar art now. I also found out that there are a lot of rivalries in the sugar art world (I guess that is not different than any other), and these people can get down right nasty.
Anyway, April (my wife) won first place for a floral piece and third place for her cake entry. For those of you who read my infosec blog, you know that she won first place just a month or so ago at a cake show in Austin. So if you are wondering why she didn’t do as well, it is because of a couple of reasons. One, and I think this is the biggest reason, is because she moved from the beginner level to the intermediate level, so the talent and experience of the other contestants is a step higher. Also, this show was judged much differently than other shows (according to many of the participants), so cakes and pieces you would never think would win sometimes end up winning. Anyway, congrats to my honey for doing well on her first time in a higher level. Awesome job, baby!
